Creating your Legion

This Page will cover the Process required to Create your Legion and related elements. Working with your GM you will use the below steps to flesh out your Legion and Primarch concepts. By the End of this Process you will have a Character Sheet which is shared with your GM and provides details on your Legions Abilities and Resources. This information is Private between you and the GM.

You will then be encouraged to produce a Wiki Page detailing your Legion from a Narrative and descriptive standpoint with details covering the Primarch, Legion History, Organisation, Combat Style and Homeworld plus any other additional information you'd like to share. This will be public and give an impression of roughly what level your Ranks are so other Players can get an indication of your outward strengths.

Stage 1: Creating Your Primarchs Indentity

Your Primarch is your avatar in the game and who you will be roleplaying as when interacting with the other players. As such you will need to think about the Primarchs motivations, their prejudices and their vices. You should consider their upbringing on their homeworld after being cast across the galaxy and the inevitable meeting with the Emperor as he crusaded across the stars.

Discuss your Thoughts

Once you have worked out a good idea for what you want your Primarch to be you should discuss it with your GM. In a large game this could help alleviate some potential clashes.

Description

Provide a very short description of your Primarch to encapsulate their personality as best as possible. This only need be 2 or 3 words. Some examples: Brutish Warlord, Charismatic Duelist, Considerate Philosopher, Prideful Psyker, Enigmatic Assassin, Bedraggled Architect, Cantankerous Artificer.

Virtue & Vice

Primarchs are Immensely powerful beings that only the Emperor could have sired through a combination of towering intellect, unfathomable Genecraft and other unknown techniques.

But they are by no means perfect. Through either Nature of their upbringing, Genetic traits or outside influence they will all have their Flaws.

Your Primarch should Exemplify a positive Virtue, such as Ambition, Loyalty, Determined, Innocence, Benevolence, Selfishness, Wisdom. But a part of their personality should be a negative Vice, such as Jealousy, Bitterness, Prejudice, Rage, Pride, Stubbornness, Hubris, Overconfidence.

Remember that Primarchs with interesting Flaws are the most fun to interact with.

Stage 2: Create your Legion Identity

Your Legion represents the Large amount of Superhuman Adeptus Astartes which fall under the Command of your Primarch. The Legions existed before the Primarchs were found but once a Primarch was given command of a Legion it was often reshaped in their image and it's numbers bolstered with recruits from their homeworld. Genetic Material from the Primarch was used to stabilize your Legions Geneseed providing a natural connection between the Marines and their Primarch.

You should consider the History of your Legion, their strengths and weaknesses and other traits which distinguish them from the other Legions.

Description

As before provide a very short description of your Legion to encapsulate their identity as best as possible. Some examples: Sombre Commandos, Jovial Vikings, Wary Scouts, Hardy Professionals, Murderous Dancers.

Stage 3: Create your Legion Homeworld

Your Legion Homeworld is the Location your Primarch would have descended upon as a small child after being snatched away from the Emperor's Gene-Labs. As Such this Location will have had a profound impact on your Primarchs development, the culture, people, climate all would have shaped his identity. Conversely a being such as a Primarch would have a dramatic impact on where they call home. Often taking control completely.

Another Crucial element to consider is the Coming of the Emperor and his reunion with the Primarch.

You will want to consider various aspects of your Legions Homeworld. Is it a Planet or perhaps another type of settlement, what are the people and culture like, what ripples through society did the arrival of the Primarch and the Emperor have and vice-versa.

Description

As before provide a very short description of your Homeworld describe it as best as possible. Some examples: Deadly Jungles, Barren Tundra, Volcanic Moon, Scattered Empire, Polluted Hive, Frozen Deathworld, Radiated Asteroid Field.

Stage 4: Spend Attribute Points

Various attributes are used to describe the different strengths, weaknesses and influences of your Primarch, Legion and Homeworld. Attributes will usually fall between 0 and 10, though there is no upper or lower cap on these rankings. Attributes will increase as the game goes on as the Legion matures and also sometimes decrease.

When creating your Legion you will have 50 points to spend across the three different areas of your Legion. Primarch: His personal attributes plus the influence he holds over different factions. Legion: Describes your Legions capabilities to persecute War. Homeworld: Attributes which cover the features of your Legions Home world.

Your specific ranks will not be visible to other players, however an indication of how strong/weak different attributes are will be common knowledge. It would not be difficult to for a Primarch to fathom where another Legions rough strengths lie.

A rough guide to how the Attributes are banded according to comparable strength as below:
0 Ranks = Incompetent/Terrible
1-4 Ranks = Competent/Average
5-8 Ranks = Specialized/Good
9+ Ranks = Exceptional/Amazing

Generally speaking unless there is a very specific reason, no Attributes should have 0 ranks.

Only the strength level will be visible to other players. Note that these bandings are from the view of Primarch, so whilst a Competent or Average rating might seem unimpressive it's relative to other Astartes or Xenos.

Below is the list of Attributes available to spend points on. For more details on what each attribute does then please refer to the Attribute Guide page:

Stage 5: Advantages & Disadvantages

You should were possible try to reflect your Legions various traits within the confines of the Attributes above. However if there is a specific element to your Primarch, Legion or Homeworld which you do not think is well represented by the Attribute system then you can discuss with your GM about making this into an Advantage or Disadvantage.

This could be something you want to really emphasise about your Legions makeup or perhaps some very abnormal genetic traits in your Legion or Primarch.

Your Legion can take 1 advantage and one 1 disadvantage total, but they can be applied to any of the three areas of your Legion (Primarch, Legion, Homeworld).

The initial effect will be either a cost or bonus to your initial 50 points used to buy your attributes, with advantages costing points and disadvantages providing additional points. The value of this will be determined in discussion with your GM. This will mean you might need to adjust your Ranks from Stage 4.

The game effect of any specific Advantage or Disadvantage will be determined by your GM, in order to keep things balanced they are unlikely to have an overt effect on the base game mechanics.

Examples of advantages might be: Hypnotic powers for Marines (Legion), a Primarch with a Twin (Primarch), a Mobile Legion Home (Homeworld), Werewolf Marines (Legion), Exceptional Tank Usage (Legion), Elite Assassin Corp (Legion), Primarch with 4 arms (Primarch), Large Battle Beasts (Legion)

Examples of disadvantages might be: Negative Geneseed mutations (Legion), Primarch with exceptionally serious personality flaws (Primarch), A significant conflict with an imperial faction (Primarch), terrifying visage (Legion), Unstable Home planet (Homeworld), Bloodlust (Legion), Reluctance to using sophisticated technology (Legion)

Stage 6: Submit your Character Sheet

Once all the above details are complete you can submit your Character Sheet to the GM for final approval, from this they will do the administration required to put your Legion into the Game. From their it is then time to create your Public facing Wiki pages which will show off your Legion to the other players. Remember to include things such as your Legion Colours, Logo, and other details evocative of your Legion. You advised to create a Wiki Page for Your Legion, Your Primarch, Your Homeworld. Then, once unlocked Special Characters. Templates for the Wiki Pages can be found here: OOC:Page Templates
