Ranagatira Toki Momoa is the ##th of the Emperors sons, and Primarch of the Legion IX: Storm Jaws

Names
Toki Momoa is given the honorific Atua Ranagatira (meaning God Chief) by his legion

Biography
When Toki splashed down on the ocean planet Taranga it was devoid of human habitants. Surrounded by myriad aquatic life that threatened his life, Toki's survival instinct resulted in his telepathic domination of a species of giant sharklike fish, the worlds apex predator, protecting the nascent primarch as he developed. The silence of the ocean depths allowed Toki explore his psychic abilities and consider deeply the latent memories encoded in his genes, as well as mature physically.

Years after his initial arrival, a human colonisation barge, part of humanities Stellar Exodus in the 3rd Millenium, came down on Taranga. After drifting through space for millennia, the human settlers were automatically awoken from cryosleep when the ship splash landed, triggering its automatic flotation devices. The settlers had been frozen in deep space far longer than the cryosleep technology was designed to operate, resulting in degradation of their neural pathways leaving them with only base levels of intelligence and few memories.

Arriving at the landing site Toki recognised what the ship was, and knew from its age that it likely contained technology long lost to mankind. He also knew of its human cargo. Triggering the ships door Toki entered to the bewildered stares of the newly awakened crew. Finding the crew unable to help themselves he investigated the terraforming technology built into the ship, which the they should have used to create habitable islands in the world encompassing ocean. Taking the terraforming pods with him, Toki searched the ocean depths for the best suited site for creating an archipelago. He used the pods to trigger tectonic shifts, to force formation and eruption of subaquatic volcanoes to create the required islands. For some reason Toki found the terraforming systems not to be functioning as he had anticipated and parts of the island formation began to run out of control. While fighting to regain control an errant volcanic plume caught Toki burning him before he was able to use psychic force cages to bring things back under control.

Watching the Primarch riding in the volcanic storm as the islands came into existence the settlers were in awe of the apparently super powered being. As the storm settled they could see black marks etched into Toki's pale skin, an apparent consequence of his epic undertaking on their behalf. Returning to the colonisation ship Toki used the seed banks to sow life on to the new islands, using the terraforming technology to accelerate the growth of the new flora.

Deified by the settlers, Toki shaped the amnesiac settler society, and taught them how to fish the ocean and become self sustaining. A tribal society formed, with those best exemplifying Toki's physical stature and abilities to provide for the tribe emerging as tribal leaders. Toki eventually bored of the simple tribesmen, and satisfied they no longer needed his help, he returned to life beneath the ocean.

Over several generations the tribe spread out over the archipelago. This resulted in seperate warring tribes on the different islands. Toki periodically reappeared to land a shark for a celebratory feast, or to challenge the best warriors on an island to single combat.

Toki psychicly sensed the coming of the god emporer long before he made planetfall. Considering the islanders not ready for the ways of the Imperium, Toki waited in his watery home on the other side of the planet. The islanders knew little of what occured, only that Toki's visitations ceased for a time.

When returning to Taranga to forge his legion Toki chose to establish them in his primary home - under the water on the far side of the planet from the islands he helped bring in to being. Further shaping the beliefs of the islanders, Toki told them he was taking warriors who proved themselves worthy to ascend to his realm, these chosen warriors where inducted into the Storm Jaws. Toki managed to convince the God Emperor that this continued deification, requiring that the islanders otherwise be left alone by the Imperium, would result in a better chapter of Marines.

Personage
Toki is a walking slab of muscle, even among other primarchs he seems large and physically imposing. Off the battlefield he wears only trousers woven from seaweed, displaying the dark whorls that cover much of his pale skinned upper body, adding to his powerful appearance. His unusual way of dressing combined with his jovial attitude and inability to take Imperial officials seriously mean he fares poorly in affairs of state. However, this is made up for with his martial prowess and over-bearing confidence that has won him grudging respect among those in the military.

Toki has replicated his burn marks on his power armour ensuring he is as distinctive on the battlefield as off it. He fights with a large two handed power hook, imitating the form of the traditional fishing hooks used by the tribal peoples of Taranga. He uses his psycic powers to augment his battlefield abilities.
Part 1 Pre-Primarch History
Before the return of their Primarch the legion were called Storm Blades. Though their geneseed gave them a propensity for great physical strength, and telepathic communication, they lacked appropriate combat doctrine to take advantage of these attributes. Consequently, the Storm Blades were not a well regarded chapter, often relegated to less important deployments.

Part 2 Arrival of Primarch and Re-forging of Legion
When given charge of his legion by the Emperor, Toki insisted on the shifting of their homeworld to Taranga, and recruiting from the native society he had formed. Toki believed that recruiting from the warrior society would result in making his legion a force to be reckoned with. It would also mean they were utterly devoted to him due to the islanders deification of the primarch. Toki's plan was contingent on keeping the islanders oblivious to the ways of the Imperium, and his true nature. To this end the infrastructure for the legion was constructed underwater, on the far side of the planet from the islands.

Legion Organisation
As a legion the Storm Jaws are shaped by the tribal island society, built by Toki on Taranga, from which they draw their recruits. Recruits are taken from the elite warrior groups that dominate the tribal society. The Legion fight in larger squads than standard doctrine. The islanders fight in 100 man groups called Hapu, led by the strongest warrior who is given the honorific Ranagatira (meaning Chief). Recruits from a Hapu that are selected to be marines and survive the process form a single unit of indeterminate size (typically between 20 and 40), having fought together their whole lives, led as before by a Ranagatira. While such large units might be unwieldy, the unique traits of the Storm Jaws ensure they fight as a highly coordinated, and deadly machine. Prior to a battle each squad performs a war dance with loud and aggressive chanting, originating in their tribal life, designed to intimidate their enemies and charge them with adrenaline. As marines the dance serves an additional purpose, the synchronised actions serving to telepathically synchronise them, so that they operate as if they were a single entity.==Unique Formations==

Combat Doctrine
On the battlefield the Storm Jaws favour surprise attacks from within cover. Using their telepathic command of indigenous fauna, to ensure their stealthy deployment. When commanded to attack a squad explodes out of cover in a sudden whirlwind of force. Favouring hand to hand combat with their traditional toothed paddle clubs, and generally eschewing non-essential technology. The teeth used in the clubs are taken from the gargantuan shark-like monsters of their homeworld, and are so hard and sharp they rip through armour as well as any chain weapon. Like in their tribal lives warriors seek out the most powerful enemies to defeat and absorb their mana by consuming their flesh.

Main Article Taranga <br>

The homeworld of the Storm Jaws is an oceanic world, with an archipelago on one side of the planet, created using terrafoming technology, and occupied by a primitive tribal warrior society. The marine ecosytem is dominated by several species of large sharklike creatures. The Legion infrastructure is constructed under the ocean.
Falash VII is the Homeworld of the The Deathwalkers Legion

Pre Compliance
Falash VII was a world of techno-barbarians. Cut off from terra during old night, its peoples regressed into nomadic tribes, travelling the irradiated wasteland, battling each other for possession of the incredibly fertile zones maintained by ancient technologies.

{{Picture Box Big
|Text= Garalsa, Red Hand of the Soros Tribe

Falash VII was once a verdant and temperate world of deep jungles. A vast planetary body, approximately 20 times larger than Terra, the human settlers lived in enormous hydroponic domes, dotted at regular intervals across the surface. An unexpected solar flare forced the human population to shelter underground for three hundred years, and when they emerged, their world had changed. The jungles were gone, replaced with an arid wasteland, the hydroponic domes were shattered, and although some of their systems still functioned, the surviving population had little knowledge of their workings.

Post Compliance
Falash VII has remained largely untouched with the coming of the Deathwalkers and Hargan Desh. At the Primarch's command, the tribes have been left to remain in the same nomadic state which bred such hardy fighters before compliance. Imperial organisations such as the munitorum and the Mechanicum of Mars maintain orbital stations, but are strictly forbidden from interfering in tribal affairs. Each year, the tribes gather at the great Red Harvest, and put forward their strongest youths to be considered for selection to the legion and to become Deathwalkers.

Native Fauna
With the loss of Falash's jungles after the Time of Burning, many of the native creatures of the world were extinguished. Those that survived are for the most part insectoid in nature, with a constitution that could survive the flames, or burrowing worm like creatures that rarely visit the surface, but provide great sport when hunted through the caves beneath the surface.
Background
Five continental plates, each occupied by distinct cultures, with a central landmass covered in a multicultural urban sprawl. Each continent came to be ruled by differing styles of government, with constant armed conflict between rivalling nation states. An alliance between two of the states quickly came to be the dominant force on the planet, subjugating the remaining nations and clans. The treatment inflicted on the 'lesser races' was formative for De Carton Wiart's military thinking.
Gidemos is the homeworld of the Legion XV: Lore Wardens

Description
Gidemos is located on the border of the habitable zone in its solar system, if it was any closer to its star then water would boil away as such it is drier and more arid than most Terra like planets. This has lead to those who live there to have darker skin than most of humanity and a culture of wearing loose clothing and an archetictural norm towards open plazas and larger buildings to provide shade and give the inhabitants room to move without being densely packed.
There are large numbers of libraries and seats of learning across the planet with all Gidemosians being highly educated. Manual labour is done by either servitors or by highly automated machinery.

History
Dark Age of Technology
Gidemos was settled early on in the Stellar Exodus being founded before the discovery of warp travel and as such was designed to be self sufficient upon arrival of the first settlers. The planet was settled to check if and how mankind could live in such close proximity to the star without having to live under the planets surface and after proving itself viable became a staging post for ships leaving the Sol system on their way further out into the galaxy.
There was a full STC database on Gidemos as well as a Men of Iron construction facility and when the Cybernetic Revolt hit the fighting was fierce with large numbers of the population being wiped out. The war on Gidemos was won when the construction facility was destroyed by a force led by a great psyker called Atripo Phylir but the destruction led to massive damage to the STC database wiping large parts of it and rendering all but a tiny percent of the items unusable.
The Gidemosians tried to send messages to Terra to notify them of their plight but the warp storms had gathered heavily over Sol and the surrounding systems leaving the Gidemosians to fend for themselves.

Age of Strife
Civilisation on Gidemos changed to be inward looking as they were no longer connected to the rest of humanity while the warp storms were blocking all communication. The industries which had serviced outgoing ships changed to those serving vehicles and construction on the planet. The people felt a great shame about how little of the STC data they had left and how much had been lost but they used the data to help rebuild their planet and population waiting for communication with Terra to be re-established.
Large numbers of psykers started to appear on Gidemos around this time but through following the teachings of Atripo Phylir there were only limited examples of demonic possession and these were swiftly dealt with.

Age of the Imperium
In this age, once communication had begun again, the people of Gidemos found out how much the rest of humanity had suffered and lost. They started to question how they had managed to hold so much together when other worlds had lost everything and had reverted to barbarism. From this an arrogance started to spread over the population as they decided that they had held on to so much because they were better than those who had spread across the galaxy.
Aristarchus is the 15th of the Emperors sons, and Primarch of the Legion XV: Lore Wardens

Names
Guardian of the Knowledge, Wielder of the Burning Book.

Biography
Arrival
The pod carrying Aristarchus crashed into the primary hive on Gidemos causing an almighty inferno in the last paper-based library on the planet. The internal guard rushed to the building alongside the emergency services fearing it to be an attack and were surprised to find a 9 foot obsidian black giant with glowing white eyes standing under the sprinklers with a single burning book in his right hand, of the other books which were in the library there was no sign.
As the sprinklers died down the eyes on the giant lost their glow as they dulled to solid green with no visible pupil or iris and he turned to them and spoke “I have arrived, your guardianship has been exceptional, but I shall now shoulder the bulk of this burden. In preparation of reunification.”
Rise to Power
The people of Gidemos had retained the knowledge of Terra amongst the rest of the knowledge they had retained so there were great celebrations when it was made known that someone from Terra had arrived as they assumed that mankind would be reunited shortly. They feted Aristarchus as the bringer of a new dawn and as the years passed some started to worship him as a divine messenger, during this time as well more psykers started to appear amongst the population of Gidemos which was also taken as a sign that reunification was close.
This worship sat ill with Aristarchus and he called all those who thought he was divine to a grand meeting at the central plaza in the primary hive. The plaza was filled to capacity with hundreds of thousands of people in there the decorative stones underfoot not visible under the mass of humanity including the leading council of the planet. A hush filled the plaza as Aristarchus took the stage dressed in a simple robe holding his burning book in his right hand, his green eyes looking over the assembled personages. “Those who have gathered here have come to hear my divine pronouncements, in that case I say this, you who have had the Knowledge for millennia hear my words, read our writings the writings of all humanity, study our sciences the sciences of all humanity, THERE ARE NO GODS. Go search for proof of divinity and if you find some I shall debate it with you or my sons shall.”
The plaza was silent as the attendees tried to process what they had heard but their intellects started to come to the forefront and they headed to the libraries and worked on finding the proof of the divine until some started to question the last words of the pronouncement for there were no others like Aristarchus for he was unique.
Rediscovery
A year passed and Aristarchus called those who had thought him divine to the central plaza again. The crowd was not silent this time as he took the stage for he had been amongst them as they had studied, he had debated with them and proven his intellect in discussion and research so a wave of noise greeted him as they cheered him as an example of what humanity could be rather than an unreachable divine prospect. Aristarchus pointed up to the sky and spoke simply “My friends behold my sons!” At this point the first of the Bringer of the Storm ships came visible over head brining the Imperium to Gidemos.

Character
Aristarchus

Appearance
Aristarchus skin is Obsidian black and he presents as a well built human standing at 9 foot. His eyes are pure green with no visible iris or pupil which change to glowing white when he draws upon his psychic powers.
Outside of combat he wears simple robes in the style of the philosophers of Gidemos and goes barefoot.

Wargear
Aristarchus wears a suit of terminator armour which has been made to fit his stature in the colours of his legion (Bronze, black edgings). In his right hand he bears the burning book and in his left he wields a force sword through which he can pass his abilities and cut through ceramite like paper.
}}

The 15th legion is heavily psychic, deploying squads of linked psykers known as Magisses into combat. Even though they are average in size for a legion, they tend to be better equipped than most and base their tactics on aggression rather than being overly cautious.
They do not work well with unmodified humans seeing them as below them almost to the point of being a separate species.

History
Terra
The 15th legion was formed from the remnants of the warlord forces of the North Afrik Conclaves, after the Emperor had lead the Thunder Warriors through their lands as part of the Unification Wars. Initially there were some problems due to the forces being drawn from a variety of tribes, many of which had spent millennia fighting each other, but these were quashed with the introduction of the geneseed from Aristarchus. The Legion quickly gained a reputation of being powerful on the attack, winning several campaigns rapidly where the opposition were in strong defensive fortifications. This was assisted by the development of a high number of Psykers within the legion.

Early Concerns
Despite the initial successes of The Bringers of the Storm, there were issues raised by the Generals of the Imperial Army, in that there were increased losses amongst their troops compared to projections. When this was raised to the commanders of the legion, they responded that they were warriors not baby sitters, and if the Imperial Army could not cope in the field they could go garrison what had already been won by the Astartes.

After these complaints, whether taken seriously or not, the 15th found themselves rapidly deployed off world and working in concert with Mechanicum forces rather than Army where possible.

Aristarchus and Gidemos
When Gidemos was discovered by Rogue Traders, they were surprised to drop out of the warp and have ships bearing the markings of the Bearers of the Storm revert to real space simultaneously. They sent messages to them to “Stay back this meeting is not for your eyes.” Even more disconcerting was that no communications were logged on the ships cogitators, so they hung back and the ships of the Bearers of the Storm headed down to the planet to make first contact.

From this meeting Aristarchus made the changes to the legion which have stood to this day, with the formation of the Magisses and the change of the legions name to Lore Wardens.
With Aristarchus at their head the Lore Wardens have pushed to the front of the Crusade driving back the superstition and darkness of the long night. Despite rapidly bringing worlds to compliance there have been questions raised by Garrisoning forces that the legion pushes on too quickly, in most cases the exception appears to be those worlds with collections of knowledge or rumours of a STC finding.

Legion Organisation
The 15th mostly follow the standard layout of a legion, with a firm command and control structure. This is assisted by communications passing down both technological and psychic methods, providing redundancies against most forms of jamming and other communication breakdowns.
The main exception to the standard layout is the Magisses squads. These are made up of linked psykers, who work together on the battlefield in a manner dependent on their designation. Some working alongside devastator squads to provide long range fire support (Atripo Magisses), and others supporting assault squads when the fighting gets up close and personal (Phylir Magisses).

Unique Formations
Magisses
Due to the high number of psykers produced within the Lore Wardens, they have developed a combat formation based around squads of linked psykers known as Magisses. (singular psykers are referred to as Magi)
There are three levels of psychic strength within the legion, those who attain the first are used to receive and transmit instructions and messages both on the battlefield and within the legion. They are also capable of limited manipulation of the elements enhancing the ammunition of their weapons.

The second tier can bond with their squad mates, enabling them to join a Magisses squad. Through the combination of their powers they are capable of, as well as those abilities of a singular magi, forming a kinetic shield to protect themselves from damage. However they prefer to use their powers to attack their foes, throwing fire, ice, lightning and other forces at their foes.

The third level can come in two ways. Either the squad learns to project their powers over a longer range (becoming Atripo Magisses), or they learn to focus and control the area they hit with their powers, enabling them to assist against foes close to their allies safely (becoming Phylir Magisses).

Combat Doctrine
The Lore Wardens battle tactics are based firmly on a strong attack, believing “A dead enemy cannot attack you”. Whilst they do use psykers in a support role (reinforcing the command and control function), they are mainly employed as another weapon to inflict damage upon their enemies.

They work well with other elite troops and provide a centralized chain of command structure where possible.

Legion Homeworld
Main Article Gidemos <br>

Gidemos is a well-developed planet in the temperate zone of the solar system, the architecture tends towards open plazas and they have an excess of libraries and universities/other places of learning due to the retained knowledge through the long night
Primarch
Main Article: Aristarchus<br>

Aristarchus is the centre of the legion and the head of the Psychic part of the command and control structure. He is a respected melee combatant but deadly when he uses his considerable psychic abilities.

Culture and Beliefs
All members of the Lore Wardens share the inbuilt arrogance of those from Gidemos, mainly manifesting itself in the belief that they are correct. Due to Aristarchus flying into a rage when this is questioned, many members of the legion react in the same way to emulate their Primarch.

The seeking and protection of knowledge is also key throughout the legion, especially when this backs up their view of the universe. They know that there has been knowledge lost (other branches of Humanity were so incompetent!) so will bring all knowledge in and share normally with the Mechanicum.
They have a very low opinion of unaugmented non Gidemosians, seeing them as higher than xenos but barely. This leads to a pbad reputation amongst the Imperial Army, who they co-operate poorly with.
They venerate psykers, believing that they hold the key to the future of Humanity. They see this as the part of the Emperor which makes him truly higher than any being in existence. They do however hold religion and the belief in gods as low and a way of holding back the acquisition of Knowledge.
Main Article: Razing of Tasichak III<br>

Tasichak III was a world where the high density of metals and minerals was detected by Mechanicum search vessels, which interested them greatly. The planet however had an infestation of Orks, who were using the resources to make their crude machines so the Mechanicum reached out to a fleet of Lore Wardens who were nearby.

Dropping out of the Warp the Lore Wardens fleet scans of the planet showed that the atmosphere was so saturated with metallic pollution that an orbital bombardment would be ineffective, and the order was given for the Magisses squads to load into the drop pods as the first wave, to be shortly followed by the remainder of the force. When the drop pods were fired the Magisses used their considerable psychic powers to push the metal in the atmosphere out of the way of the drop pods enabling the legion forces to land and assault the Orks in an unexpected way.

The surprise of forces making it through the sky and the aggression of the Lore Wardens caught the Orks out, leading to swift establishment of beachheads. From there the legion stayed on the front foot, driving them from the planet enabling the Mechanicum to use the planet’s resources for the good of the Imperium.

De Carton Wiart is the 4th of the Emperors sons, and Primarch of the Theovan Guard

Character
The Primarch of the Fourth Legion is an eccentric strategic genius.

During his conquest of Stonwool, he was shot in the face, head, stomach, ankle, leg, hip, and ear; survived a direct hit from an artillery round; broke free from imprisonment and ate one of his interrogators; and tore off his own fingers when a medic refused to amputate them. Describing his experiences in the Stonwoolian wars, he wrote, "Frankly I had enjoyed the war."

Biography
Born to war, raised during a millenia long planetary-wide pre-atomic age war between nation states. Found by a warrior from a small tribe on a backward continent; he was quickly recognised for his potential as a warrior, given his prodigal size and intellect. During his early years his people were insignificant, managing to avoid the majority of the conflict. Being underdeveloped and lacking the technology of its rivals - it was defeated by a neighbouring imperialistic foe.

They adopted a guerrilla campaign, wrecking havoc amongst their enemies - but suffering much in return as the larger nation utilised draconian punishments against the civilian population. It was at this time that De Carton Wiart's focus swung from becoming the ultimate warrior to that of defeating his enemies. He recognised that in order to defeat them, he would have to reform his people's mindset and become the leader they were so desperately seeking.

His enemy were a force of considerable strength, an empire spanning a third of the planet, with weapons far surpassing that of the Stonwoolians. Recognising the weaknesses of his people; they were warriors of a far better pedigree but lacked the necessary discipline and logistics to surpass a technologically superior enemy. The people were not geared for a war, a total war that would see them free or annihilated. He set about arming every man, woman and child.

Within a year of taking leadership of his people he had formed the entire populace into a military machine. Bringing them to bear on the imperial yoke of his enemy, a deciding battle in which De Carton Wiart stood at the fore of his people.

He was successful, destroying an Army far technologically superior. Merciless in their subsequent cleansing of their enemy from their ancestral lands. Taking over the factories and arming themselves with the vanquished foes weaponry. Advancing with almost immediate affect into a post-industrial society, his previous reforms came to full fruition; mission command allowed the various arms of the newly formed military to conquer their continental neighbours rapidly over the coming years. The political will for total war emanating from the harsh past of their history and De Carton Wiart's personality, coupled with his seemingly endless ability to keep his warrior people on a permanent combat effectiveness surpassing their adversaries. The Stonwoolian people soon found themselves in control of their continent having defeated all who opposed them.

Appearance
With his black eyepatch and empty sleeve, De Carton Wiart looked like an elegant pirate, and became a figure of legend.
Johannes Gause is the VIth of the Emperors sons, and Primarch of the Harbingers

Names
Johannes Gause is the Primarch of the VIth Legionnes Astartes, known as the Harbingers. He is often commonly referred to as 'The Mortarch' which means The Undying in the native tongue of Phobetor

Biography
Arrival
Johannes arrival was heralded by a flaming comet that crashed to the ground in a great eruption of fire and earth not far from the Harbingers monastery. They ventured out and rescued the child they found within and brought him back to raise him as one of their own, naming him Johannes Gause.

Like all Primarchs Johannes grew both physically and intellectually at a prodigious rate. Quickly absorbing the teaching of the order, he was able to reorganize the defenses and tactics of the Harbingers, and helped them to push back the wilds for the first time in generations. As time passed not only did his stature grow through the deeds he preformed, but also he was held in awe by the populace due to the fact as he aged he remained unaffected by the phage, first through one generation then two then three. Adoration became veneration, and eventually his fame spread to all corners of the planet, and he began to known by the title Mortarch, which means The Undying in the local tongue. From time to time Johannes would venture out alone, and it was on once such sojourns he was to discover something which would change the planet's fate.

Rise to Power
Whilst delving into the ruins of one of the abandoned factories, he came across a device which allowed him to commune directly with the phaged, and guide their actions as he directed. Instantly realizing the boon this piece of ancient technology would be to his beleaguered brethren, he returned to his monastery and attempted to recreate the device. For many months he was sequestered alone, wrestling with the archeotech, until eventually he had created something based off the original. He next traveled the planet, finding and training those who could use the items as he had. These individuals were few and far between, and none as powerful or successful as Johannes, however within a matter of a few years the threat of the phaged to humanity had been ended.

Rediscovery
Shortly after the great pilgrimage, as it would become known, great lights were seen in the sky and Phobetor was reunited with the Imperium of Man. It was to be the 426th Expeditionary fleet that was to rediscover Phobetor in the 83rd year of the Great Crusade. As the mighty ships descended, Johannes marched to meet them with a contingent of his finest warriors of the Harbingers. Upon landing, a great warrior in gleaming golden armour strode out and straight up to Johannes. No words appeared to pass between the two, but after only a few moments the Mortarch bent his knee and motioned his followers to do the same. Thus was the Primarch of the VIth Legion reunited with his father.

Character
Johannes Gause was raised by an Order of Warrior monks known as the Harbingers. They preached that the greater the sacrifice made in this world, the greater the reward in the next. As such he believes in putting himself and his warriors at risk, rather than allowing civilians into harms way. He is keen on the worlds he liberates looking to their own defence and teaches self sufficiency.

As regards his brothers, he is a Psyker and openly encourages research into psyhcic abilites. As such this puts him at odds with several of his more conservative brothers. Johannes is also critical of over zealous retribution, having openly criticised Raguel for his censure of Yates IV.

As an individual he is stern in countenance and will generally speak his mind directly to his peers, rather than try and bandy pretty words.

Appearance
Johannes has a gaunt bearded face, often with a furrowed brow and disapproving glare. He is tall even for a Primarch and few amongst his brothers match his height.

Away from the battlefield he tends to wear only a simple monks habit of dark green, usually adorned with a hunting dagger at his waist. Indeed were it not for his great size it would be difficult to pick him out from his ordinary Legionnes.

Wargear
Johannes generally takes to the field wearing a suit of master crafted armour gifted to him by the Adetus Mechanicus and wielding a power sword recovered from the ruins of his homeworld named Callandor.

Phobetor is an unpleasant planet, situated in the far East of the Galaxy, in what are commonly referred to as the Ghouls Stars. A world of dark infested forests and misty valleys, permanently locked into twilight due to its position between a binary star and the heavy pollution in the atmosphere caused by its ancient industry.

During the dark age of technology, the planet was both a garden world and an industrial powerhouse, great factories spewed out equipment used that was used across the breadth of the region, but with the fall of wider galactic society, the industry could not be maintained and slowly but surely collapsed into ruin.

Unfortunately for the population of Phobetor, this released all kind of toxins and pollutants into the biosphere, leading first to the drastic decline of the inhabitants, and then the slow mutation of the flora and fauna making it the death world that it is today.

Not finished with the planet, there was one final disaster to befall the world. During the chaos of the time, a deadly phage was accidentally released. Known as the Creeping Rot, the first symptoms were not noticed for many years. The virus began to breakdown the cell walls in the host, slowly causing the victim to literally decay from the inside out. This would eventually leave the victim little more than a walking husk, inevitability cast out of its abode, mindlessly wandering the wasteland between settlements, claiming sustenance from wherever, or whoever, it could.

Unable to find a cure for this fatal curse, a religion sprang up. It preached that your time on this plain is nothing more than a trial, only through great feats could an individual go on to the promised afterlife, and the longer that they tarried in the world, the more their spirit would be corrupted, both spiritually and physically. On these teachings, individuals would via to be the best at whatever they pursued, be it art, science or martial prowess. However, unless taken by some misfortune earlier in life, all would eventually develop the Creeping Rot, and venture out into the wilds to met a heroic death against the horrors of the wilds, rather than face a slow and honourless demise safe in their homes.

After a few centuries, the number of human settlements started to dwindle, as more and more of the remaining farmable land was lost to the growing hordes of phaged. One by one first cities and then towns began to be abandoned and became infested with new shambling inhabitants, until only a few hundred bastions survived, the greatest of which was the home of the Harbingers, a religious order dedicated to self sacrifice so that they might attain a better afterlife. It was into this fortress that Johannes was to fall.

Coming of the Imperium
Since the arrival of the VI Legionnes Astartes, the planet has been largely left to its own devices and is used mostly as a recruiting ground for the Harbingers Legion. The remaining fortress monasteries still serve as bastions for the human population, but a number of settlements have been refounded, using "Phaged" labour for the manual work.

The Harbingers have based their Fortress monastery on the orbiting Moon, this allows visitors to interact with the Legion without fear of contracting the Phage for themselves. The Mechanicum also have a large presence in the monastery, and use it as a base for Archeotech foraging expeditions to the surface.

Early crusade

The early history of the VII the legion is an unusual one. Raised shortly after the unification war on Terra they where one of the first legions to be created solely from their lost Primarch gene seed. As proof of concept the experiment was a success was a success and pioneered advances that benefited all later chapters. The legion itself however was a failure. The gene seed refused to take in all but a handful of subjects and only by freak chance was it discovered that it would only take hold in those with physic potential. This quirk of genetics severely limited the legions size and where other Astarte’s chapters numbered in the tens if not hundreds of thousands the silent sons numbered in mere thousands. Despite their small numbers the sons acquitted themselves well in the early years of the crusade. With a combination of tactical brilliance and psykic might they were instrumental in several campaigns though always in support of other legions.

Reunification with the primarch

The discovery of their Primarch brought great changes to the legion. In the months it took the feet to reach the Silencium system the legion was in constant telepathic communication with the primarch and began to forge the mind link that makes them the terror they are today. When Soren bowed before the emperor and joined his dominion to the imperium the sons gained access to billions of viable recruits and a new era dawned. Within a hand full of decades the legion quadruples in size, changed its doctrine and forged strong ties with the mechanicum. Whereas before they had been a small legion of psykic specialists now they where an unstoppable tide of fire and psykic domination.

Legion Organization
The silent legions numbers some 160 thousand Astarte’s divided into 8 Cohorts. Each Cohortt is lead by a Grand Dominus who coordinates the armies mind and noospheric link and stands as a direct link to the primarch. The Grand dominus’s themselves don’t take the field instead relaying their commands through physic and noospheric links to lesser Domini in the field. The War hosts break down into Armys called mantiples each 2000 strong. these Mantiples further break down into 20 Centuries each 100 strong those further breaking down into squadrons of ten each. Each squad is telepathically and noosphericly linked and in constant communication with the rest of the army and through the various relays with the primach himself who personally oversees every theater. Each marine is equipped with several servo-skulls which they use in conjunction with their own psychic gifts as a source of intelligence and espionage.

Combat Doctrine
The Sons of sorren are a precise tool that should not be deployed lightly. The legion specializes in Psychic espionage, infiltration, cyber warfare, precision strikes, orbital assault and subjugation. Though perfectly capable of annihilating any foe they are set against, they are best employed against rogue human elements or situations where collateral damage is to be kept to a minimum.

the legion favors a cautious approach taking their time to gather intelligence on their targets. For months the system is scanned both physically and psykicly and infiltrated where possible. The next stage is one of electronic warfare. Codes are cracked, data vaults plundered, troop dispositions analyzed and tactics adjusted and weapons chosen.

As the legion moves into position the first sign of their presence is a precision barrage of emp warheads and phycic suppression of any technology. As whole cities go dark, orbital batteries shut down and scanners fail the legion makes its move. They come in drop ships or via teleport moving as one against the enemy positions. Swarms of servo skulls precede them further confirming enemy potions and then the killing begins.

The silent sons sing no songs. No battle cry passes their lips instead it is the roar of their bolters and the crushing power of their will that announce their presence. Their maneuvers or perfect their communication instantaneous their knowledge of enemy positions unmatched. Weak willed foes simply surrender there and then their wills broken by a wave to dread and terror that precedes the legions vanguard. Those who do not flee or surrender are butchered without mercy.

Once the fighting is over the true subjugation of the foe begins and The Flagellum Meam are deployed. Human populations are rounded up and enslaved in all but name. Xenos populations are simply put to the sword. The conquered have their will broken by the legions mental domination. Great censuses are held and all those deemed problematic are displaced and lobotomized before being given to the mechanicum to become servitors. Any found to have psychic potential given over to the black ships that accompany the legions expdition fleets. The cream of this harvest is sent back to Silencium for indoctrination in the primarch dominion the rest sent to Earth to Feed the Astronomicon.

When the imperial governing bodies take over they find feverishly eager populations glad to take on any tithe or hardship at the mere promise that their psykic subjugaters never return.

The Evocati

In a legion where strong psychs ability is the norm the Evocati stand out. If the average legionary is a High Delta on the psychic scale the members of the Evocati Covens are all Gamma level and above. These gifted psykers are the ones who perform the feats of psychic might the legion is renowned for. It is they who cast their minds out into the void to spy upon enemy positions. it is they who infiltrate the minds of the enemy command structure and advise the Grand Diminus where to strike. It is they who break the resolve of armies and cause star ship crews to scupper their own vessels. They are the Primarch chosen and masters of their craft. It is form thier ranks that the legions leaders are drawn. Each of the Grand Domini have served in the Evocati without exception. There are currently 9 Evocati covens active within the legion. 8 are personally assigned to the Grand Dominus's and their Cohorts. The 9th known as the inner circle serve the Primarch personally. Though the majority of the Evocati like the Domini they are assigned too do not take the field there are exceptions. Some among their number have gifts better suited for the front lines and they form the tip of the spear. Bedecked in Tactical Dreadnought Armour they march with the legionaries bringing lighting, fire and crushing telekinetic force to bear on the Imperiums foes.

The Flagellum Meam

Once a world is conquered the The Flagellum Meam are deployed. It is this branch of the legion that performs the subjugation and enslaving of the civilian populous. The Flagellum Meam consists of a score of Astartes led police battalions drawn form among the Solencium PDF. Their task is to pave the way for the arrival of Imperial departments responsible for indoctrinating newly conquered worlds into the Imperium of man. This task is performed in the following manner. Local government and law enforcement is suborned and brought under psykicly reprogrammed where required. Once this initial step is complete a census is taken of the planets civilian population and resources. Mind probes are employed to hunt out Dissidents. Once uncovered those deemed to be problematic are displaced, concentrated and handed over to the Mechanicum to be turned into servitors. Those Found to have no value are simply euthanized. Any civilians found to have psykic potential are given over to the black ships and the The Nigrum Nauta for further processing. Finally after several months the newly pacified planet is handed over the imperial authorities and The Flagellum Meam rejoins the legion.

The Nigrum Nauta

It should come as no surprise that a legion consisting solely of psykers Should have a close relationship with the black ships. From the discovery that the legions gene seed would only take root in those with psychic abilities the 8th legion has always worked closely with the Black ships. With the coming of the Primarch this relationship strengthened and resulted in The Nigrum Nauta or the black mariners.
The Nigrum Nauta exist to provide Astartes support to the crews Black ships in pursuit of their duties. Over the last few decades each of the black ships have heen assigned at least a half if not a full strength squadron of Astartes. to aid them in their task. Though these astartes hold no command role abroad the Ships their expertise is invaluable in capturing and proseesing of those whos gifts have developed out of control.
Consequentially those recruited into this service though psykers themselves are extensively trained in anti psyker ops. Limiter collars and psykic nullification fields are heavily used where the legionaries natural aptitude for mental manipulation fails. The Nigrum Nauta differs from the legions other unique formations as they spend a most of their time away form the legion and Sorrens direct supervision though all report to him when able. Though some might wonder why one who looks down on non psykers might willingly aid in what, on the surface at least, appears to be the full scale suppression of this own kind the primarch motivations are plain. By Crewing the ships the legion gets first pick of the ships harvest further expanding their ability to recruits. And so The Nigrum Nauta sail on into the void and with each planet they tithe the legions power grows.
The Silencium Sector

On the edge of the ultima sector the Silencium system sports 3 habitable planets and an asteroid belt. The system is heavily populated and each planet is more or less self sufficed dotted with a geometric pattern hives, manufactorum and agri complexes. Despite heavy industrialization the air is clean, the waters still pure and vast green belts surround the rising cities. Life is good on these world though decidedly different form every where else in the imperium as the whole population is telepathic. To walk its fields and boulevards is a solem and strange experience. No one speaks as mind to mind and noospheric communication has been the norm for centuries. There is no poverty almost no social unrest and the population is united beneath the primarchs psykic dominion working together for the glory of the new imperium. Tech priests and mechanical augmentation are common sights and the manufacturing facilies are more than capable of supplying the legion that calls the system its home.

Primarch
Sorren the silent.

The silent Primarch is a grim and foreboding figure. Among the Primarch he is of but average stature. His features though classical are not comley. Infact they have a cold cruel air to them. His skull is implanted with gold ans silver circuity. Among his borther primarch however it is his will that stands out. His Gunmetal grey Armour, chased with green and gold, shimmers with frost. His will washes of him in oppressive waves. Having sworn to let no other than his father hear his true voice, he communicates via telepathy or through the vox units of his servo skulls. he skulls in question swarm around him constantly around him constantly scanning, measuring and analyzing everything he sees. Via vex he does not mince worlds as the servo skulls rob him of inflection or vocal subtlety. Mind to mind is a different matter all together. there he speaks with eloquence and nuance but only when it suits him.

Though appearing distant and aloof to most the Primarch is fiercely loyal to those he thinks of as his friends and Fanaticly loyal to his father the Emperor. He is also strangely protective of his legionaries a clear side effect of the physic communion he shares with them. He is not beyond sacrificing them where he must however as Sorren draws breath for one reason. To see the imlerkum accendant and the a galaxy united as one beneath the Emperors benevolent rule.

The coming of the Primarch
Sorrent the silent was discovered in the solencium system in the eastern sector of the ultima segmentum on the thirds plant Dominum.

The solencium system had come through old night in relatively good stead as their words where relatively self sufficient when the primarch came the 3 worlds where trapped in a interstellar civil war. One of the side effect fo the warp storm that cut the system of from the early empire was the development of telepathy in a signification portion of the population. Though initially seen as a scientific curiosity the consequences where catastrophic. Within a few generations the telepaths of silencium had banded together into their own society. Using their gifts they ammased great welth and influence until almost all of the noble houses shared their gifts. Once it become public knowledge that the telapthic gene was dominant and that the nobles of the 3 worlds had been instituing eugenics programs to facilitate the spread there was civil war. On one side the The new phsycic upper class and on the other the blunt population. The telepath's held the advantage at the start of this war and where able to take control of 2 of the three worlds in short order. Their phsykicly linked troops simply out coordinated their blunt counterpart. To counter this the blunt population began a course of cybernetic implantation and using the equivalent of the noospehere where able to counter their foes. And then physic nullfier was invented.

Into this deadlock the Primarch came. Dominum prime had been under physic control for generations and found wondering alone after a blunt enemy raid soren was picked up by local defense forces handed over to the cdominion and indoctrinated into their society. The telepathic Dominions was bound in psychic unity and worked as one towards the total dominion of the Solenecium system. Found to have enormous phykic potential he was given over to their military casts. It became swiftly apparent during his rapid development that sorren was not wholey human. Within 8 years he was fully grown and had learned everything there was of war. Awed by his mind voice and rapid development he was given over to the Dominions scientists for study. It is here that the silent primarch found his love for all things mechanical. Within a few years of joining the scientific division he cracked the blunts noospeheric communication and reverse engineered thier psy blockers and cybernetic enhancements. Using this new found intelligence he raised a new cadre of elite troops form among the societies best combining telepathic might with cybernetic enhancement. Within 6 short months his troops had broken the deadlock and ended inter system war.

The Dominions hierarchy had always been based on telapthic strength with the loudest mental voices ruling over the lesser and within months of winning the war soren became undisputed ruler of the three worlds. Combining the best of psychic and cybernetic soren rebuilt his dominion into something new. Instituting rigid breeding programs and mandatory cybernetic anahcnement within a mere 5 generations there where no non telepath's and non augmented people left within the Solencium system. Having set his house in order Sorren turned his mind to there starts question his enormous psychic awareness beyond the solenciaum system. It was at this point that he touched a phycic intellect that Dwarfed his own. That of the Emperor of mankind. He swore his allegiance to his father there and then. For months Sorren was in telapthic Communions with his father and the legion that had been born of his seed. When the emperor set foot on solencium he found 3 worlds already in complete compliance and his lost son ready to serve. At last meeting In the flesh Sorren swore his oath before the crusading fleet and gave over his worlds to the imperium. The emperor returned them to his custodianship and presented him with his new legion. The 8th, the sons of Sorren

Culture and Beliefs
The 8th legion. Labled the freak legion or the emperors slavers by their detractors, are a product of their primarch beliefs. United in telepathic and cybernetic union they do not speak.
Having inherited their primarch prejudices they finding verbal communication to be inefficient, vulgar and beneath them. They more than make up for this with their mastery of telepathy and the noospehere even condescending at times to use the vox units in their servo skulls if its puts their allies at ease. This and their opinions on non psykers has driven a wedge between them and the army.

Their relationship with the mechanicum in contrast is excellent with both sides abhor inefficiency and are one in their love of all things technolgical and noospheric.

And then there is Sorrens outright disdain of all non psykics. Though none could ever accuse the legion or its primarch of hating those he deems blunt they simply believe them to be inferior. Though the Soleincum system is compliant with imperial law there are nop blunt citizens. And to make matters worse its spreading. With every worlds dominated and stripped of its pshykers their population and power grows and so does the primarchs ambitions. Though none can conclusively prove it it is whispered that his secret goal is that one day the whole imperium will be as Solencium. United in telepathic and technoglogical harmony Ruled over by the the greatest phycic mind the universe has ever known. That of the Emperor of man kind. And Sorren as his right hand. The primarch accepts that his dream will not be fulfilled any time soon but if anything he is patient. Patient and methodical. A mere 15000 years should do it. And what do the immortals have but time.

Geneseed
The Gene seed of Sorren the silent is unique among the Primarchs as it will only take route in those with strong pshycic potential. Implantation in non psykers has a 97.823 mortality rate among aspirin recruits which imposed severe limitation on the legions original numbers. Consequentialy until the discovery of the solencuim system and the reunification with the primarch the legions recruits where almost solely drawn form the Black ships. When implanted in one with latent or already developed phycic ability the gene seed flourishes. As it enhances the flesh is also enhances the mind. Though some develop additional gifts all of the Silent Sons are strong Telepaths and mental manipulators. Both these advantages are heavily relied upon and play integral roles in the legions Doctrines and organization .

Each squad is telepathically and noosphericly linked and in constant communication with the rest of the army and through the various relays with the primach himself who personally oversees every theatre. Each marine is equipped with several servo-skulls which they use in conjunction with their own psykic gifts as a source of intelligence and espionage.

The Dominions hierarchy had always been based on telapthic strength with the loudest mental voices ruling over the less and within months of winning the war soren became undisputed ruler of the three worlds. For months Sorren was in telapthic comunnions iwht his father and the legion that had been born of his seed. When the emperor set foot on solencium he found 3 worlds already in complete compliance and his lost son ready to serve. At last meetign I nthe flesh Soren swore his oath before the crusading fleet and gave over his worlds to the imperium.

And then there is Sorrens outright disdain of all non pshykics. Though none can conclusively groove it it is whispered that his secret goal is that one day the whole imperium will be as Solencium. A more 15000 years should do it. And what do the immortals have but time.

Geneseed
The primarch geneseed will only take route in those with strong pshycic potential. As it enchances the flesh is also enhances the mind strengthening the subjects psychic gifts and always resulting in telepathy which the legion uses to great effect. Though his proved almost catastphic when the legion was founded with the integration of silencium and access to the black ships the legion grwos for mday to day.

The Fifth Legion is an aberration, cursed with defective geneseed; ruled by an unknowable, monstrous Primarch. Seemingly divorced from the larger Imperium, uncaring for its laws and any authority, the Aesir only seem to obey a singular voice - the Emperor of Mankind.

They do not bring worlds to Compliance. They take no Domain. There is no pattern to their massacres. No warnings. No mercy. Where Vidarr & the Aesir walk, naught but destruction is left in their wake.
History
Early Crusade
Now Garm howls loud | before Gnipahellir,
The fetters will burst, | and the wolf run free;
Much do I know, | and more can see
Of the fate of the gods, | the mighty in fight

Before the Aesir, they were the Winter Sons, recruited from the stock of the techno-tribes of the Nordyc Confederacy. At the vanguard of the Imperium’s first great leap into the unknown, the Winter Sons became famous for their ferocity; their unbound loyalty to humanity; their long and winding sagas.

No Legion seemed to take more joy in the Emperor’s Crusade than the Sons. None made greater use of Remembrancers to record their deeds and have them broadcast across the Imperium & to the lost colonies of mankind. Their victories became the sagas of legend; their absurd heroics the subject of pic-cast. When a hero of the Winter Sons fell, The Imperium mourned; when they bought a world to Compliance, The Imperium was jubilant.

During this time, the Winter Sons served alongside the majority of the other Legions & the Imperial Army, acquitting themselves with grace & glory. For many of the Imperium’s military, to have fought with the Winter Sons was a badge of honour, a tale to bring home to family.

Then came Ichar IV.

The Silence
The sun turns black, | earth sinks in the sea,
The hot stars down | from heaven are whirled;
Fierce grows the steam | and the life-feeding flame,
Till fire leaps high | about heaven itself.

A heavily industrialized Hive World which served as the ‘homeworld’ of a series of systems who maintained a form of ‘Federation’ with the support of local Xenos elements & technologies, Ichar IV should have been a straightforward Compliance, the Legion’s stock-in-trade.

With the planet’s territories split between trade families the bulk of the Legion was sent to demonstrate the power of the Imperium to a splinter group of ‘Trade-Magi’ who maintained strong links with local Xenos elements, holding the planet’s Hive Secundus & controlling off-world travel.

Deep within that Hive, the Legion, led by Master Torstein Sigvald, uncovered a Xenos construct. The hive’s super-structure was constructed around eldritch & inhuman technology that intertwined and interfaced with it’s human inhabitants in ways that were…un-Imperial. The Legion engaged and emerged victorious; the Xenos vanquished; the Hive eradicated from orbit – but at a terrible cost. These ancient Xenos had unleashed a plague upon the Fifth, that directly targeted their geneseed. Within a day, every element of the Legion that had been at Ichar IV had fallen into a coma, their gene-enhanced immune systems only able to keep them barely alive.

But the perfidiousness of these Xenos did not stop at Ichar IV. Somehow, they transmitted the details of their monstrous creation to other Xenos enclaves across the Galaxy & seeded them amongst the human populace. Seemingly transmittable by any of humanity, but only deadly to the transhumans of the Fifth Legion, the plague affected the Vth in sector after sector. After unpredictable and catastrophic losses, the uninfected remnants of the Legion were recalled and quarantined on the moon of Titanm along with their comatose brethren. Many, Primarchs among them, called for the Legion’s remnants to be euthanized, fearful that this terrible plague could mutate and spread to the other Legions. Others counseled patience, believing that the Imperial science would find a cure. Many simply waited, trusting that the Emperor would return victorious from the Vanguard of his Crusade and perfect a solution – surely He would not let such a terrible fate befall the Imperium’s heroes?

Vigrior I
Now do I see | the earth anew
Rise all green | from the waves again;
The cataracts fall, | and the eagle flies,
And fish he catches | beneath the cliffs.

‘My ears filled with the roar of a thousand voices & I turned to port, almost involuntarily. I felt my sister brush against me as she did the same. Her hand reached out and took mine. There, in the void, between the blinking constellations of the material world, was a light, a mere candle to the Astronomican’s illuminating light, yet it was there; it was whole and it was wondrous. The roar dissipated and I was filled with a Silence, pure, illuminating. We turned to one another, to the Captain, to the Navigator. No one spoke, no command was given. Everybody just…knew. Our vessel rolled within the void; the crew set course, unbidden . To Vigrior.’ ~
– Astropath Verne Krennic; Hundred & Seventeenth Expeditionary Feet, as told to Remembrancer Marianne Holt

The Seventeenth Expeditionary Fleet found their way to the planet designated Delta Tau 11.431.1, colloquially known as Vigrior I. The systems near Vigrior were populated by the survivors of advanced pre-Imperial civilizations who despite the great darkness, had survived and prospered, albeit by forming stratified feudal societies around the cultures of pre-Imperial settlers. Kings, Queens, Lords & Knights piloted ancient war machines and sub-light spacecraft in defence of their realm, fending off Xenos threats and creating a pocket realm held together by tradition and treaty.

All except Vigrior I. Here, something had gone very, very wrong. Remembrancers would later pick through local historical records to uncover references to most nearby planets taking in noble refugees from Vigrior, who spoke of terrifying earthquakes and uncontrollable monsters. Cross-referencing with Martian records, it seems that Vigrior was subject to some kind of terraforming or biological disaster, although the exact cause & circumstances are lost to record.

What elements of the 117 found was a death planet, it’s surface teeming with vicious & deadly life. But, as humanity so often had during the, survivors of the pre-fall population had found a way to survive, in strongholds that borrowed deep underground, linked by a network of tunnels that spanned the planets surface.

Until recently, these strongholds, named ‘Meduseld’, had been at war, an endless cycle of underground raiding by bands of ‘Einherjar’, stronghold fighters who captured enemy settlement supplies and, occasionally, hunted beasts above ground for meat & to prove their mettle. But, in the years preceding Imperial contact, for the first time in the planets history, the Meduseld had been united under a single Jarl.

As the 117th made planetfall in surrounding systems, bringing these systems to a peaceful compliance, an unmistakable ship appeared in orbit around Vigrior - the Bucephelus. Seven days later, the Imperium sand in celebration, as another of it’s sons had returned home: Vidarr.

Vidarr
The gods in Ithavoll | meet together,
Of the terrible girdler | of earth they talk,
And the mighty past | they call to mind,
And the ancient runes | of the Ruler of Gods.

The Primarch of the Fifth, and his Legion were not seen for over a year, until the massacre of Korellian VI. Unwilling to comply, and armed with comparable technology to the Imperium’s, the Korellian Confederacy had refused Imperial Army offers of compliance, turning their backs on diplomat and military commanders alike. As the Imperial Army prepared for what could be a costly war, the Vth’s warships appeared in orbit. Stormbird & Thunderhawk alike descended from the heavens, refusing any communication from Army or the Korellians, disgorging the Fifth in its entirety.

Within seven hours, the Legion had dismantled every military asset on the surface. The Legion then evacuated as swiftly as they had arrived.

Remembrancer interviews of the surviving Korellian civilian populace describe Astartes garbed in the brightest blue, trimmed with silver carving their way through soldier and war machine alike. They offered no warning, gave no quarter. Most unerring of all, they gave no battle cry, never cried out – there was none of the exuberance or energy that so characterized the Winter Sons.

At the forefront of the assault was a giant of a Marine, clad in ornate artificer armour with pauldrons shaped into the heads of a serpent and a wolf. He bore a glaive that crackled with lightning and rent the silence of the assault with ear-shattering thunder when he smote his enemies. The best of Korellia fell before him.

The Great Crusade
In wondrous beauty | once again
Shall the golden tables | stand mid the grass,
Which the gods had owned | in the days of old.

This pattern of assault would repeat itself many times over the coming years. Without warning, or seemingly, orders, the Vth’s ships would appear in orbit. The Legion would descend, sometimes led by their Primarch, but as the Crusade expanded, often by other heroes of the Legion, and bring a world to compliance. Sometimes there would be a peaceful handover, with pomp and ceremony. Other times it would be a slaughter, with no one left alive. However, compliance was reached, the Legion would be gone within a day.

This means of warfare would prove contentious. The Legion could make a months long Imperial build-up completely moot by their intervention. They would steal the thunder of other Legions, offering no explanation to their brothers. No care for logistics or what came before or after compliance. And, worst of all they never communicated with anyone. No one knew where or when they would next appear.

Yet, without any seeming planning, their precision attacks often turned the tide of larger conflicts. Sometimes they would save entire fronts with their interventions, or eliminate a larger threat before it could grow out of control. Years later, as the Crusade progressed, the worlds the Vth bought to heel proved pivotal in later campaigns, almost as if their actions were prescient.

Eventually Remembrancers sent to Vigrior I to chronicle the histories and deeds of the Legion returned with the truth of the Vth Legion & their ‘unique’ ways. The plague that had felled the Legion had been purged, thanks to the Emperor’s mastery of science and the return of their Primarch’s original geneseed, but the price was high – a mutation of the Betcher Gland that overtook their vocal chords, inherited from their Primarch, that rendered the Astartes of the Legion mute.

The Remembrancers also bought back the Legion’s true name – the Aesir - along with wild stories of a Legion that had wholly embraced the ways of their Primarch’s culture – and what a strange culture it was, built on poetic sagas; on runes & mysticism; of the great hunt.

Legion Organisation
The current disposition of the Legion is unknown.

Remembrancer accounts of recent encounters with the Aesir are incomplete, but have clearly identified the Officers of the Legion as the 'Thyle'.

They appear to have three ranks that operate as support roles: 'Laeknir'; 'Scops'; 'Skalds'. Imperial scholars have posited that these are equivalents to Apothecaries, Chaplains &...something else.

Unique Formations
Grand Thyle
When the Emperor called the Legions to Terra, Vidarr made his only public appearance. Accompanying him were sixteen of his Legion, clad in Justaerin Terminator Armour. Remembrancers accompanying the Vth reported that the sixteen were the Primarch's personal bodyguard, his 'Grand Thyle'.

Confusingly, the Grand Thyle appear to hold no command authority, despite sharing the same title as the Aesir officer ranks.

Combat Doctrine
The Aesir leave no survivors from their assaults.

There are those who have bent the knee; those who have acquiesced to the demands of the Legion without protest. They are handed to the regiments of the Imperial Army without violence. They see none of the Legion, they have no stories to tell. Remembrancers who record their stories after broadcast their relief & their fervent thanks for being allowed to join the Imperium.

Remembrancers also broadcast reports from the shell of the city that was Kellavan IV, who's Patriarchs would not submit to the Aesir - a city that, in a single hour, turned it's own guns against it's populace - until there were none living.
The Remembrancers broadcast pictures from the annihilation of Cerberus III, where the Viceroys of the great trading families believed their Xenos technologies would protect them from the dropships of the Aesir. A whole continent; a hundred hives; reduced to empty hives; thousands of bodies left for rats to feast on.

A hundred other examples serve as warning. To stand against the Aesir is a folly. Heed their word. Surrender. Or die.

As to their doctrine - how they accomplish such annihilation. None have yet survived to bring word of it to the Greater Galaxy.

The Anvilus Guard are the 20th Legionnaires Astartes. They were created with a singular purpose: Annihilation. Tasked with campaigns deemed too time-consuming or resource heavy for conventional legions, the Anvilus Guard deploy en mass to crush their foes in the Emperor's name. They are the ultimate symbol of the Emperor's wrath, engaging whole civilisations and pocket empires that the Emperor deems worthy only of consigning to the pages of history. The Anvilus Guard are siege specialists, whether it is upon a single battlefield or across an entire solar system. Once the Anvilus Guard deploys its battlelines and siege trenches there is no escape for their enemies.

The Primarch of the Anvilus Guard, Kirenn Lokkan, is not known for his mercy. Once he has a target in his sights, he will single-mindedly pursue the utter destruction of that foe, with no quarter asked or given. That said, when the Anvilus Guard arrive at the foes' gates Lokkan (or one of his senior officers, if he is not present) will always give his opponents one chance, and one chance only, to lay down their arms and surrender, before a single shovel has hit the ground. If the offer is accepted, then he will allow his foes to retreat from the world the Emperor has claimed for His new Imperium. If the offer is refused, there will not be another, and the siege will only end one way: with the destruction of the foe and death to every single man, woman or child who dare to oppose the Emperor's Will. The Anvilus Guard are not known to take any prisoners of war after such a refusal.
History
Early History
Following the Unification Wars the Emperor set out from Terra on His Great Crusade, taking with him His 20 Space Marine Legions. One of these, The Anvilus Guard, quickly showed a natural aptitude for attritional warfare, and made frequent use of grinding, siege-like tactics. Using these to His advantage, they became the Emperor's first choice when it came to assaults on heavily fortified postions or entrenched opponents. The Legion quickly adapted and learned the fine arts of siege warfare, and made frequent use of siege tactics, heavy artillery, and massed Super-Heavy formations. They became apt at grinding their opponents down in sieges that would sometimes last years. Once the foe was beaten and their walls crumbling around them, only then would the legion deign to strike, with what would always be a first and last assault - and it would do so with a massed escalade across multiple breaches, with many hundreds of Astartes storming each shattered section of rubble in unison.

The Discovery Of The Primarch
When the Anvilus Guard descended upon the Taros system, an initially hostile cluster of seven populated, heavily fortified planets that defied the Emperor's offer of compliance, they found that their opponents were canny indeed - every attempt to create a proper battlefront and enclose their foes' many citadels was met with defeat. The occupants of the Taros system seemed to just KNOW siege warfare, with many feints, counter-attacks and fake fortresses that repeatedly caught the Astartes completely off guard. After several months failing to even pin down their wily foe, the Emperor Himself brought fresh forces to the system. With His guidance, only then did the Taros system begin to crack, but the cost was high. Many thousands of Imperial Army and Astartes died in the struggles to take the system.

When at last the fortified capital city of Taros III itself was biesieged, the Emperor spoke personally to the Fortress' defenders across the field of trench lines, praising them for such a tenacious and masterful defence, and offering them survival if they would but offer Him fealty. As soon as He saw the Taros Siege Commander step upon the walls of the city, however, the Emperor stopped mid-speech - and laughed. He had found one of His lost sons.

Legion Organisation
The Anvilus Guard broadly follow standard Legionnaires Astartes organisation, with the exception that all of their formations are known as 'Siegehosts', and are typically much larger than standard, with emphasis on massed infantry and artillery, with the bulk of their armoured support being Super-Heavy tank and artillery squadrons.

In the void, the legion's large fleet has a preponderance of heavy cruisers that make up the bulk of its strength. These often travel in larger than standard formations that encircle any opposing system in a web of overlapping firepower that few enemies can evade.

Unique Formations
Hellfyre Squadrons
The Anvilus Guard almost completely conform to standard Crusade templates for its units and organisation; however one marked deviation is its extensive use of its many and varied Super-Heavy tank and artillery battalions. While most commanders would prefer to keep their artillery units sheltered in their backline, safe from harm, the Anvilus Guard does the opposite. During sieges they often makes unconventional use of Super-Heavy artillery squadrons, organising them into so-called 'Hellfyre' squadrons which are used to make lightning attacks on fortress walls.

The tactic calls for the heavier legion artillery units present in the Siegehost to group into smaller squadrons of 4 or 5, which are used in concert with Super-Heavy tank squadrons and often led by the less numerous Typhon Heavy Siege Tanks to make direct attacks on fortress walls. These 'Hellfyre' squadrons, in which the Minotaur Super-Heavy artillery tank has found great favour, drive in alternating groups directly up to indentified weak points in the opposing fortress, often under heavy fire, and level their heavy cannons to fire almost point-blank into the base of the structure before quickly withdrawing. Using specially modified shells, they will repeatedly hammer one section of wall and force a breach in the targeted section in a fraction of the time it would take to conventionally shatter the walls from long range.

Many are the bastions that find their walls crumbling under such relentless attacks, often within days of the legion establishing its siege lines; by this method has the legion ended in days and weeks grinding sieges that Imperial logisticians predicted would take months or even years to conclude.

Combat Doctrine
The Anvilus Guard are siege specialists without compare. When the gunmetal grey warships of the legion enter a system, they will begin to use their superior numbers to systematically surround a target world; they will isolate its defenses, its Mandeville Point, and any routes or avenues of escape - a 20th legion blockade is very hard to escape from or survive. Ground targets are identified, landing zones set, and bombardments begin to pave the way for the legions heavy landers.

Once the legion makes planetfall, a foe is given their one chance at surrender; if it is refused the legion will begin a siege. They have gained a slight notoriety among Imperial forces for being known to be utterly ruthless and without mercy to those who scorn their offer. Once Kirenn's legion has begun to dig their trench lines, they will not stop, they will not relent, and they will not take any prisoners. Any who face them are slain, no matter how strong their defences nor how high their walls are. In this, the legion can sometimes display quite a stubborn streak - they will fully commit to the grinding attrition of siege warfare regardless of the cost in men, material, or the less quietly voiced, common sense. A 20th legion siege does not end until the Siegehost commander is satisfied that every last man, woman or child who stood against them is destroyed.

When siege lines are complete, the Siegehost commander will waste no time in cracking open the foes' defenses and laying waste to whatever lies beyond. Cities, Bastions, Citadels - all are easily broken upon the Anvilus Guard. Massed artillery brigades, swarms of Super-Heavy tanks, Hellfyre squadrons, wave after wave of legion infantry - all are adept at breaching and forcing any target, at any cost. All in the legion know that to fail to successfully storm a target is to fail their father Kirenn - and by extension, the Emperor himself; a shame they will never allow.

Once the war is concluded the legion will move on - leaving little regard for the devastation caused by its methods. Such is the concern of the iterators and other post-complience personnel that follow in its wake; although on more than one occasion the legion has been so thourough in its prosecutuion of a world that there were no survivors at all...

Legion Homeworld
Main Article The Taros System <br>

The Legion's home system, Taros, is comprised of seven planets.

Taros I - Taros I is a barren wasteland, mostly irradiated, but was once home to the system's inhabitants. Its surface is riddled with tumbledown citadels and forts, and is often used by the legion for weapons testing and live fire exercises.

Taros II - Fortified mining world. Much of the systems resources of minerals and ore come from this planet, which has an extensive underground network of linked fortresses.

Taros III - The system capital. Densely populated, almost every settlement on the surface is walled, and armoured bastions guard every street corner. From space the planet almost appears as though it is one enormous, sprawling fortress. It is the Tarosian's greatest boast that Taros III has never fallen an invader - not even the Emperor.

Taros IV - VI - The next three planets in the Taros system are effectively smaller versions of the capital. The majority of the systems population live on these three planets, and it is from here that the legion takes the bulk of its recruits.

Taros VII - Gas giant. Rich deposits of valuable gas are present in the upper atmosphere, and the legion maintains several massive refinery stations here, that each serve as both rigs to harvest the gas, as well as potent void stations forming the core of the Taros systems' outer defences.

Primarch
Main Article: Kirenn Lokkan<br>

Kirenn Lokkan is the master and commander of the 20th Legionnaires Astartes, the Anvilus Guard. He is the spiritual and cultural heart of the legion, and every Anvilus Guard strives to emulate his fierce example. A warrior without compare and a shrewd tactical genius, Lokkan has taken his legion and moulded it into his own image: the very model of loyalty, ruthlessness and sheer will that prosecuting the Emperor's many wars requires. He is universally revered within his legion and is a much loved commander, and it is seen as a great honour for a legionary to have their primarch take command of their siegehost while on campaign.

Kirenn Lokkan is a Siegemaster with no equal; whether on attack or defense he has an unparalleled understanding of sieges and can often anticipate what move his opponent will try next before even they are aware of it. Since being found and brought into the Imperial fold, Kirenn and the Emperor have had many discussions regarding the nature of siege warfare. Ever since the compliance of the Taros system and Lokkans subsequent discovery he has found in the Emperor a like mind - someone who can see, predict, and understand the nuances of attritional siege warfare just like himself, and in ways no other can. Where others might see a bloody fight with little glory to be had - relentless bombardments, mass casualties and the horrors of trench warfare, Kirenn Lokkan has the ability to elevate it to something like high art. He understands sieges like no other, save the Emperor, and so it is his favoured way to do battle, and to flex his strategic genius in a situation others would despair in or find hopeless.

In combat Lokkan is a superlative fighter, and while he makes use of a wide variety of weaponry and has an extensive personal armoury, his favoured weapons are his enormous hammer, Spinebreaker, and his equally massive chainfist, Hell's Razor, which he often wields as a pair.

Culture and Beliefs
Both Kirenn Lokkan and his legion have a firm belief in the vision the Emperor has for the galaxy. They trust in Him to lead them to victory and are utterly certain that He knows the best way forward. They both love and revere the Emperor as a father and as a leader, and any one of them would gladly lay down their lives in His name if it furthers the Imperial cause. Lokkan will do anything the Emperor commands him to do, and the legion anything Kirenn says in turn, without question.

The Anvilus Guard are not exactly the most prideful of legions - they know they get given a lot of the dirty work or dangerous campaigns that the other legions perhaps would not do, or would not have the stomach for, yet they stoically bear this knowledge without complaint. They are not bitter about this however; they are glad to be able to do the Emperor's work in His name; for if not the Anvilus Guard, then who? The 20th know that there are no others in the galaxy capable of tearing down fortresses like they do, no other force in the galaxy capable of sustaining the most gruelling and punishing of assaults like they do, and this gives them a quiet pride when they wage such wars. Indeed, often Lokkan will deliberately ask for, and be given, the most dangerous or bloody of conquests, so that his legion might keep their specialised skills sharp and not fall victim to complacency, in what Lokkan would describe as 'softer fights.'

The legion maintains very little in the way of ornamentation, even among its command ranks, and certainly not among its foot troops. Such things only serve as distractions from the neccessity of the task at hand; the prosecution of the Emperor's wars, and so the legion generally distain from such things, on everything from its weapons and armour to its battleships and supply vessels. They know that the nature of the wars they fight and their successful conclusions are gifts enough for the Emperor, and so do not care to flaunt these victories in front of others. He loves them as only a father can, and that is enough for the Anvilus Guard.

Geneseed
The Legion's Geneseed is very stable, which allows many of its recruits to survive the implantation process and go on to become full Battle-Brothers of the Legion. The ease with which the Geneseed takes to the Tarosians natural biology is surprising, but it is key to the Legion's survival; it must always maintain a high influx of recruits in order for the Siegehosts to maintain effectiveness, given the constant attritional warfare the Legion often finds itself in.

The Luna Fists claim to be the most tenacious of the Emperors legions, unparalleled in Siegecraft and even possessing an enviable armoury of Dark age relics related to this field. The saying goes, "Once the Fists have a grip on something, they dont let go". The Legion has something of a mystic bent, their homeworld's obsession with Lunar charting carrying across into a number of related esoteric studies though usually to some practical end.

History
Tenth Legion
The Tenth, or "Stormwalkers" were one of the last Legions to be created during the Unification wars, serving in the closing stages of the Antarctic wars alongside the future Star Lions.

They served admirably if unexceptionally alongside their other kin throughout the Sol campaign but really began to come into their own during their Purge campaign against the Orks of the "Rust" system, beginning a doctrine of superior firepower at the point of most resistance that would later merge with the Teaching of their Primarch.

They earned their nickname through several battles in what were dangerous conditions even for Astartes, Rad fields, Deathworlds or even Asteroid storms the Tenth faced all these and walked to victories others could not countenance.

Luna Fists
Upon reuniting with their Primarch the Legion reunited on their new homeworld, aiding in the Compliance of Mesec and purging the Ork remnants from the system, it gave their new Primarch the measure of his sons and he liked what he saw.

Heading to the Stars the Legion quickly adopted the ways of Mesec and their father, forcing the enemy onto their guns and never giving up ground once taken. They ground out several campaigns against the xenos, favouring in particular any chance to punish Orks in particular burning the Ork Empires of Charag the Impaler and Golrock Facebiter and drawing Waaagh Gitsmaka into a brutal trap in the Ignis system.

Their reputation nailed down the Luna Fists look forward to the next stage of the Crusade.

Legion Organisation
The Luna Fists carry on the spirit of the Principa Bellicosa even if a number of their titles have changed over time with Seneschals commonly replacing Centurions for example. There are also a number of switches to a base 4 organisation around the phases of the moon, including the Primarch's own advisory council known as the "Mournival".

Unique Formations
White Death Cataphractoi
The Legion took to the Experimental Terminator armour programme with great enthusiasm, indeed their tactics fair demanded an up armoured, up armed astartes. With the widespread adoption of various pattern Terminator armours the Luna Fists have focused on the acquisition and manufacture of Cataphracti plate, favouring its improved defences and not caring about its decreased mobility.

The "White Death" are the finest of their Terminator companies, in purest White they show their contempt of the enemy and engage closely with Melee weapons and boarding shields, backed with extensive grenade harnesses and short ranged but potent heavy weapons.

Their motto is "One Push" which is all the White Death need to take any gate, bastion, fortress or bunker.

Combat Doctrine
The Luna Fists are tenacious above all things. Their Doctrine demands they bring the best firepower to bear on a crucial point of the battle, which they seek to dictate by forcing the enemy to engage them on their own terms, usually by extensive fortification but where this is impossible the Legion would instead strike at a vital location or where they know the enemy to be strongest.

Legion Homeworld
Main Article Mesec Prime <br>

The Primarch landed on the planet Mesec, one cursed by a moon that brushed atmospheres during certain Lunar cycles, unleashing the Ork hordes who inhabited it.

It is thought Mesec prime was once a Knight world, indeed the Citadels across the planet's surface share many similarities with those of other Knight worlds and still houses a great many dark age marvels directed towards their defence.

Where once the many keeps were independent fiefdoms each is now the home to one of the Luna Fist Great companies, the Legion spreads itself across the surface to present an ever difficult target. praesidium is the greatest of these keeps and the domain/original home of the Primarch. Indeed it is arguably one of the greatest fortresses in the Imperium.

Primarch
Main Article: Lucius Vanaxis<br>

The Tenth Primarch landed on Mesec during one of the Cycles of War with the Orks, the defenders of praesidium were astonished to find a child wandering amongst a field of dead Orks upon their sally.

Indeed the Child continued to astonish as he grew, a naturally deadly warrior, master tactician and savant with the keep's ancient technology he awoke several dormant systems and developed the Knights equipment and strategy to unparalleled levels, indeed several neighbouring keeps quickly offered daughters to take this young geniuses hand but all were rejected in turn. He had no time for marriage, only the end of the Orkoid menace.

First he needed unity however, and moving quickly he negotiated several alliances with nearby keeps, quickly assuming control of their forces in all but name and gathering more and more shards of their ancestors technology with every ally brought on board.

Soon though, keeps began to rally against the strange young man, as he continued to grow beyond the scale of even the tallest whispers began to spread and even some formerly friendly citadels closed their doors.

It is said he simply shrugged and declared that: "If they will not take my hand then they shall take my fist". With that the conquest of Mesec was begun. In a series of deadly sieges and set piece battles the Primarch tore down his rivals and absorbed his allies. Eventually coming to control every keep on Mesec prime and beginning his master plan to destroy its Ork infested moon with a powerful cannon array.

Fortunately for some the Emperor arrived soon after construction began and reveal his Son's true destiny.

Culture and Beliefs
Stubborn self reliance is at the core of what it means to be a Luna fist, though some would say it strays towards a martyr complex all too easily. Marines frequently engage in tests of endurance, racing barefoot on hot coals, holding a heated iron bar or ritual scarification without respite. It is common for Marines to refuse augmetics if going without would not impair combat performance and they take some pride in displays of grisly injuries survived and overcome.

A Holdover from Mesec is the Legion's obsession with moons, moon charting and many related mystic fields. Certain dates or Lunar phases are considered Auspicious or cursed and the Legion goes to some effort to favour the former and avoid the latter. Astology, horoscopes and the like are popular hobbies amongst the legion and many of its officers indulge in some prognostication.

Geneseed
X Legion Geneseed notably alters the recipients brain chemistry somewhat during implantation, subjects gain a greatly increased pain threshold but with a consummate decrease in regular sensation which in rare case requires surgery to restore feeling in the subject.

The Seed itself is relatively stable and takes well to a variety of subjects.
}}

The Theovan Guard follow a rigorous doctrine of precision strikes, seeking to destroy their enemies by eliminating its leadership cadre. Focused primarily on conquest, the legion has little interest in governance.

Known for their exemplary training regime and De Carton Wiart's strong geneseed, Stonwool has become a revered breeding ground for extraordinary military thinkers. The legion is numerous yet operates a delegated mission command structure, meaning even the newest brother Sergeant can find himself leading significant numbers of Imperial Army and Theovan Military formations into battle.

History
The war of subjugation
The world was split between the militaristic Stonwoolians and the Alliance, a conglomerate of nations on the remaining free continent. It was evident to all that eventually De Carton Wiart's military machine would cross the planetary ocean and crush the remaining nations. With this in mind the Alliance sought to prevent their future being dominated, their solution was to arm themselves with biological weaponry designed to target a certain genetic trait only carried by females from the Stonwoolian continent, making them infertile. Having deployed the weapon they awaited peace overtures from De Carton Wiart.

De Carton Wiart was not about to abandon his people to history by such a fate, yet he was unwilling to negotiate with those who had performed such an abominable act. Turning from unconventional weapons he set about creating a new breed of soldier, one that was designed for war, invulnerable to biological and chemical attack. A martial race that would see the Alliance wiped from the face of the planet.

The war was over swiftly, with casualties in the high billions. Surviving natural born and those who were of the defeated peoples fell under a new military-industrial administration. With a mission, set by De Carton Wiart to create a fleet of vehicles capable of space travel in order to expand his domain.

... then the Emperor arrived.

Readying a legion
Stonwoolian martial prowess and their relentless devotion to De Carton Wiart saw him assume the mantle of Primarch with ease. The planet was able to find an abundance of willing volunteers to form the Emperor's fourth legion and found that their knowledge of genetic engineering enabled a strong and stable geneseed from which to transform their candidates. Such was the populace's desire to follow De Carton Wiart to the stars, often those deemed too old or incompatible with the geneseed took their own lives.

The resultant legion formed at great pace, and was named the Theovan Guard after an argument between De Carton Wiart and one of his brothers about which legion would act as the Emperor's Vanguard in the great crusade.

Legion Organisation
The Legion is blessed with the inherited traits of their homeworld. A martial prowess far surpassing the average, an innate tendency to aggression and an almost flawless rate of success amongst those implanted with geneseed due to the nature of the Warrior Caste and the Stonwoolian knowledge of genetic engineering.

Astartes of the legion pride themselves on their discipline and their training reflects this - as with all Astartes they know no fear, however the Theovan Guard know that where they fall another shall take his place. The legion is unrelenting in its pursuit of victory.

'Every problem may be solved by force, sometimes it is just a matter of a bigger force.'

Unlike other Legions the Officers of the Theovan are not Astartes, De Carton Wiart instead selects each Officer - having passed the CCAP (Command Cadre Astartes Program) these Officers command from Century level upwards. At Century level an Astartes Centurion (Brother-Sergeant) will mentor the Officer until he is ready to join the command staff of a Cohort as a Tribune. De Carton Wiart believes that this provides the legion with a synergy unseen amongst the fellow Legions, allowing for a greater cooperation between all forces under his command. Each Officer is given limited augmentation and modified Power Armour with reversed helmet colouration, to mark him out as a leader.

The legion is divided into Cohorts, plus a 5,000 strong Alesian Defence Cadre responsible for training new Astartes and Stonwoolian Imperial Army troops. Each Cohort was founded consequentially, bolstered with experienced Astartes from the previous Cohort providing NCOs.

Unique Formations
1st Cohort (De Wiart's Own) – Assault specialists
Equipped with Terminator Armour
The majority of the Terran veterans are in the Prima Facie Cohort, with the remainder dispersed as a solid NCO Cadre for subsequent Cohort and Imperial Army Foundings.
Serving in the Prima Facie is an honour in itself and battle casualty replacements are selected only from the finest and most distinguished Astartes from the other Cohorts.
Prima Facie acts as the Legions hammer, an armoured fist capable of annihilating any foe. It has no Imperial Army attachments and is the only Cohort with Astartes Officers.

2nd Cohort (Seaforth) – Infiltration Unit
Equipped with Scout Armour
the most able new initiates from foundings are placed in to the 2nd Cohort. They are highly specialised scout and infiltration troops, focused on high value targets and ground of vital strategic importance to the legion.

Combat Doctrine
'Cut off the serpent's head and it will fall.'

Legion Homeworld
Main Article Stonwool <br>

Stonwool is the capital world of the Imperial presence in the fringes of the Maelstrom, the planet supports a large population of 76 Bn.

Pre-Imperial Stonwool; The city-state of Stonwool was entirely militarised during the 'De Carton Wiart's war of subjugation'. Having been razed by their neighbours previously, the society became entirely focused on conducting a total war against its fellow nations and city-states; under the leadership of De Carton Wiart, seeking their complete annihilation.

In order to bring the conflict to an end and resupply his ever dwindling ranks, De Carton Wiart threw his efforts into genetic research. Reorganising the population to suit the military needs of the campaign. Warriors, commanders and combat service troops. Utilising all captured and non essential workers as a labour force.

The warrior caste were thus created, utilising some of De Carton Wiart's own genetics mixed with the best of the remaining Soldiers; they were designed to be bigger, faster, stronger and more aggressive than your average human Soldier ever could be - the trade off being that no Stonwoolian has ever lived beyond 30 terran years, less those who join the ranks of the legion.

Present; Stonwool is the homeworld of not only the Theocan Guard Legion but some of the Imperial Army's finest Infantry Regiments, widely regarded as the best soldiers in the Imperium short of the Astartes. This is primarily as a result of their unique genetically engineered background and subsequent upbringing and training.

Primarch
Main Article: De Carton Wiart<br>

Culture and Beliefs
Martial society, bred and raised for combat.
Stonwoolian genetic engineering is the stuff of legend, several Tech-Priests of the Adeptus Mechanicus have spent time on Stonwool in order to further mankind's knowledge of genetics. As a result, the legion's geneseed is incredibly compatible with most of the Stonwoolian population.

Also known as the Raid on Millobruk and Ley'Shir, was a major raid conducted by the 3rd Century of the 2nd Cohort against the headquarters of Mugabedean forces at Millobruk and a smaller camp at Ley'Shir on the planet Sotonia on one of the legions first expeditions for the Emperor. More than 300,000 enemy fighters were reported as killed and 50,000 wounded while only two Astartes died with a further six wounded.

A troop carrier was flown over the Millobruk camps 10 minutes before the airstrike as part of a deception plan: the assembled enemy forces assumed a false alarm and did not disperse or try to take cover when the Astartes participating in the actual strike subsequently approached. In their first pass, four bombers dropped 1200 Alpha bombs (Stonwoolian anti-personnel cluster bombs) over an area 1.1 kilometres long and 500 metres wide.

Following the initial air strikes, scouts engaged opportunity targets in allocated areas that together inflicted the majority of the casualties. The remainder of the century were deployed on three sides of the objective into various stop groups and sweep lines, and were also effective in killing large numbers of fleeing enemy. Nevertheless, the small size of the ground force and the lack of a complete envelopment allowed a number of fleeing enemy to escape. Two important targets of the attack, commanders Craig David and matthew Le Tissier escaped.

A "stay-behind" force of terran veterans remained in ambush positions around the area overnight to wait for any who might return; these were then extracted by gunship in the morning. The Century withdrew in good order having suffered one brother killed at Millobruk, and a gunship pilot killed trying to crash land his in a field after his craft was damaged by ground fire.

Several thousand tons of equipment and unknown tech was captured. The captured equipment was ether destroyed where it was found or it was taken back to Stonwool.

The most able new recruits from foundings find themselves attached to the 2nd Cohort. They are highly specialised scout and infiltration troops, focused on high value targets and ground of vital strategic importance to the legion.

Combat Doctrine
'Cut off the serpent's head and it will fall.'

Main Article: De Carton Wiart<br>

Main Article: Operation McKinnon<br>
