=History=

== The coming of the Primarch ==

Falash VII was a world of techno-barbarians. Cut off from terra during old night, its peoples regressed into nomadic tribes, travelling the irradiated wasteland, battling each other for possession of the incredibly fertile zones maintained by ancient technologies. When Hargan Desh fell through the night skies, many of the tribal elders read the streaking fires in the sky as a sign, and led their peoples north towards where they fell. A great gathering of tribes assembled, but none could find any evidence of anything coming to land. On the sixth night, the tribal leader's feast was interrupted when the doors to their animal skin tent were thrown open and a child strode in, blood streaking his hands and face. Casting the head of a camp guard onto the table, he struck down the first enraged tribal leader who confronted him, striking off the mans head with his own axe. The crashing of weapons and screams of pain brought a crowd to the tent, but none dared enter. When the sounds subsided, the tent opened, and the child strode out before the people, coated in gore, before casting the heads of the tribal leaders at their feet. From that day forth, the child was known as Hargan Desh, or 'Red Reaper'. The elders saw the promise this youth held and declared that he had earned the right to lead. He took to the brutal ways of the tribes and, guided by the soothsayers and shaman, conquered or absorbed the tribes of Falash until one day there was nobody left to fight.

Five moons after the conquest of the last tribe, lights were seen in the skies again, and the shamans spoke of the coming of the red dawn, the end of days. Gathering his many households, Hargan Desh led his people to the site of the starfall in the greatest warhost that world had seen. There he found a host of golden warriors, led by a champion who glowed with the light of suns. Stepping forward in challenge, Desh stood face to face with this champion For a day and a night Desh and the Champion stood and spoke before, to the astonishment of the tribes, he knelt in abasement before this supernatural creature. He declared before his gathered advisors and captains that from this day on, Falash would serve the Emperor of Mankind and that he would go forth into the stars and lead new conquests at the head of a mighty host. Given command of the VII Legion, known as the Stonebreakers, Desh set about recruiting those of the tribes who were able to be transformed into legionnaires. The peoples of the deeply superstitious tribes called these youths 'Deathwalkers' for they appeared to die, and rise again as powerful creatures, the like of which had never been seen by these people. Desh was said to be amused by this reaction, and his legion was known unofficially as the Deathwalkers, before taking the moniker as their legion name proper in the early days of the crusade.

= Legion Organisation =
The Deathwalkers legion is organised into 14 large units known as Grandhosts, each led by a Blademaster. Each Grandhost is subdivided into around 100 Hosts, and each Host comprises around 100 squads, known as 'Fists'. These Fists are often paired and train to operate in concert with each other, their warriors encouraged to compete with each other for glory.

==Unique Formations==
===The Bladesworn Brotherhood===
The Bladesworn Brotherhood is the elite first Grandhost of the Deathwalkers, led by the First Blademaster Akkan Varna. It is comprised exclusively of legionnaries hand-picked by the Primarch to form his honour guard. Each warrior is a veteran of many battles and the entire Grandhost is equipped with Terminator armour, and often carry huge two-handed axes into battle.

The Bladesworn hold a series of brutal gladiatorial games every 3 years, the winner of which is given a position of honour as Champion of the Bladesworn. Warriors of other Grandhosts are encouraged to observe these games, and so to aspire to great feats of valour and personal prowess in order to be allowed to join the Bladesworn and be entitled to compete in the next games.

==Combat Doctrine==

Deathwalkers ground assaults usually take the form of an overwhelming tide of armoured transports, filled with heavily-armoured warriors, armed for close-quarters combat. The resources which many legions would channel into longer ranged artillery and battle-tanks are often diverted into the creation of larger numbers of terminator armoured suits, allowing brutal frontal assaults.

The Deathwalkers fleet is largely outfitted with heavier armour than standard legion fleets, at the expense of some firepower, and is solely focused on delivering a swarm of boarding craft into the enemy fleet. These boarding parties will often take enemy ships in one piece if possible, eliminating the ship's crew, rather than destroying vital systems.

=Legion Homeworld=

Falash VII was once a verdant and temperate world of deep jungles. A large world, approximately 20 times larger than Terra, the human settlers lived in large hydroponic domes, dotted at regular intervals across the surface. An unexpected solar flare forced the human population to shelter underground for three hundred years, and when they emerged, their world had changed. The jungles were gone, replaced with an arid wasteland, the hydroponic domes were shattered, and although some of their systems still functioned, the surviving population had little knowledge of their workings.

Hargan Desh leads the Deathwalkers as he led the tribes of Falash, as a barbarian king holding court.

Wearing a brutally spiked suit of unornamented armour, Desh leads from the front, setting an example as the exemplar of what a warrior of his legion should be. Bellowing challenges to enemy champions and marking his armour with their blood and trophies, he is a terrifying sight to behold.

Desh wields a wide variety of weapons, from brutal axes to crushing maces. His favoured weapons however are the pair of enormous serrated powered axes known as the Suneaters. With expert twists of his mighty wrists, he can catch and snap the blades of enemy warriors before reversing the swing and cleaving open the surprised victim.

=Culture and Beliefs=

The tribes of Falash are of hardy stock, a minor mutation causing thicker skin and increased regenerative abilities over a standard human. This resilience made ensured that a greater proportion of initiates survived the implantation processes, giving the Deathwalkers incredible recruitment potential. When the Legion was created, Desh brought their cadres of shamans with them into the stars. These spiritual foci would lead their followers in ritual and brutal scarification, each legionnairy cutting deeply of his own skin and packing the wound with unguents to ensure that even their astartes physiology and the natural hardiness of the people of Falash could not stop the wound from healing into a brutal pattern of scarring.

These shamans also dictate when the legion will commit to war, reading the signs and portents in primitive and often lengthy bouts of soothsaying. If these portents dont read favourably, the legion will often delay or change their plans until the shamans are confident of victory.

=Geneseed=

The Deathwalkers geneseed does not exhibit any deficiencies at present. The enhanced healing and hardiness of the natives of Falash VII ensures a much higher success rate in the implantation process, as well as ensuring Deathwalkers legionaries not only have a longer average lifespan than that of many other legions. In addition, this enhanced resilience means each geneseed is not extracted and re-implanted as often, reducing the numbers of damaged or lost specimens.
